Get a seamless smile with our composite fillings—book your appointment today!

At Palm Beach Institute of Dentistry, our priority is always to preserve your natural teeth. However, when necessary, we perform safe and comfortable tooth extractions to help maintain your overall oral health. Whether due to severe decay, trauma, or overcrowding, we’ll assess your unique situation and provide expert care tailored to your needs.

When Is a Tooth Extraction Necessary?

Tooth extractions may be required if you:

  • Have a severely decayed or damaged tooth
  • Are experiencing a dental infection or abscess
  • Have impacted teeth, such as wisdom teeth
  • Need to create space for orthodontic treatment
  • Have advanced gum disease causing tooth instability

We use digital imaging and comprehensive exams to determine if a tooth can be saved or if extraction is the best course of action.

The Tooth Extraction Procedure

Your comfort is our top priority. The process involves:

  1. Numbing the area with local anesthesia
  2. Loosening and removing the tooth using specialized instruments
  3. For impacted teeth, oral surgery may be required, including creating a gum flap and removing bone tissue if necessary
  4. Suturing the site (if needed) and applying gauze to control bleeding

You’ll receive personalized aftercare instructions to support healing.

Aftercare Instructions

Proper aftercare promotes healing and prevents complications:

  • Rest and avoid strenuous activity for 24–48 hours
  • Use ice packs and take ibuprofen to reduce swelling
  • Eat soft, nutritious foods and avoid straws for the first few days
  • Maintain oral hygiene by brushing around the site and using an antibacterial rinse

We may schedule a follow-up visit to ensure optimal healing.

Wisdom Teeth Removal

Wisdom teeth often require extraction due to impaction, misalignment, or crowding. We typically recommend removal during the late teen years but assess each patient individually. Our digital X-rays help determine the need and approach for removal.

Signs You May Need a Tooth Extraction

Contact us if you’re experiencing:

  • Intense or persistent tooth or jaw pain
  • Pain when chewing or biting
  • Swelling, pus, or bleeding around a tooth
  • A loose or damaged tooth

Prompt treatment can prevent further complications and preserve your oral health.

Comfort Through Sedation Dentistry

We offer sedation options for patients with anxiety or those undergoing surgical extractions. Your safety and comfort are always our priority.
